Frequently Asked Questions
What license do you have?
North Carolina Limited License, number: L.35730, which means we can do electrical projects up to $60,000.
Is it okay to use nonmetallic cable ties in an electrical panel?
Yes. Nonmetallic cable ties are an easy way to organize corresponding wires in your electrical panel.
Is it hard to add can lights?
Adding can lights is not complicated, especially if you have a nearby electrical source. They are easiest to install if there’s an attic directly above where you would like them.
Do I need a permit or an inspection if I'm doing my own electrical work?
If you live in a rental property or intend to rent or sell your current property, the electrical work must be done by a licensed electrician. Large projects, such as adding on to a home, require permits. Simple electrical work, such as replacing light fixtures, doesn’t require a permit. However, if you need to modify any large wiring systems contact a licensed electrician. This will ensure that your project is completed with the proper permits and adherence to local electrical codes.
Is it true that all electricians listen to AC/DC?
That's an excellent question! Contact your electrician to find out his preference and receive a 5% discount on your next service (Must mention at time of booking. Cannot be combined with other offers. Only valid for one service).
What's the best way to handle an electrical fire?
-
Disconnect the appliance from the electrical source
-
Use baking soda to distinguish small fires.
-
Cover the flame with a fire blanket to remove the oxygen source.
-
Use a Class C fire extinguisher. Most residential fire extinguishers are labeled ABC, which means they are appropriate for Class C fires.
-
Call 911 immediately and leave the premises if you can’t distinguish the fire or if the fire is too large to put out on your own.
Is it acceptable to leave a dead wire buried in the wall?
It’s best to remove dead wires if possible. However, some wires, like knob-and-tube wiring can be left in the walls, because they can’t be removed without removing drywall. If you leave dead wires buried in the wall, they must be trimmed and capped to reduce the risk of electrical hazards.
When do I need a subpanel?
Subpanels are a good idea if you have a large amount of electronics that require more electrical power. If all of the circuits in your panel are full, adding a sub panel may be beneficial. Subpanels are used to divide up power into additional circuits in specified locations. They are mainly installed to increase safety, convenience, and space.
How do I know if lights are rated for outdoor use?
Check the box label for the UL (Underwriter’s Laboratory) rating. The IP (Ingress Protection) rating represents the degree to which the light bulb can handle wet conditions. The first number represents how well a fixture keeps out solid elements like dust and dirt. The second number represents how well a fixture deals with moisture. The higher the number, the better the protection. For instance, an I no P rating of IP-65 or below means that a fixture is weather resistant, whereas a rating of IP-66 or higher means that your light fixture is basically waterproof.
